About Don Tipps
Born and raised in Amarillo, Tipps has never strayed far. “Amarillo is my home and one of the best places to live and raise a family.” Married to Kristi, the couple are active leaders and longtime members of Trinity Fellowship Church. Together, they have six children.
Tipps built a thriving State Farm Insurance agency in Amarillo, serving the community since 2000. Additionally, he and his wife own Amarillo DKT Operations, a property management company focused on revitalizing older homes. “I understand what it takes to run a business here in Amarillo. This experience helps me bring fiscal discipline and goal-oriented solutions to the city council.”

A Proven Track Record of Service

Elected to the City Council in May of 2023,
Tipps has already made significant strides in addressing key issues:
Public Safety
Worked to find money in the budget to provide the largest raise in decades to all Amarillo Police Officers and Firefighters (almost $10,000). Crime rate reduction in the last 2 years.
Infrastructure
Developed a plan to provide $13 million annually toward street repairs. Implemented a dumpster replacement program while also developing an alley cleanup initiative.
Fiscal Responsibility
Identified $2M in savings and implemented merit-based wage increases.
Leadership
Played a key role in hiring City Manager Grayson Path and restoring Amarillo’s Independence Day celebration.
Tipps also led efforts to restore community pride, bringing back the city-wide
Independence Day celebration and funding a $1.4 million dollar women’s clinic.

Tipps credits his faith as the guiding principle for his decision-making. “I don’t feel an important decision can be made without first seeking counsel from the Lord, especially those that affect other people.”
